Hi, Last Monday I got the monthly Tzadik package; Electric Masada and Locus Solus were among the stuff. Although I never managed to get into the original Locus Solus (I think I've never listened it until the end), I find this new live recording amazing. Here I do hear rock as a true pillar of the group's sound and I feel it as some sort of threshold to Naked City or Painkiller. It sounds like an actual power trio, with amazing improvisations and heavy guitar skronk. This is the Arto I've wanted to listen for ages, unlike his electro-bossa-samba eluccubrations. Needless to say, Zorn's great and Fier has also been a nice surprise. I had only heard him with the Lizards, if I'm not wrong. The EM album is also great, but I haven't really been a supporter of the project for a while now. I'm quite exhausted, so my opinion isn't the one to pay attention to right now. However, there are superb improv segments, Mori and Saft add a lot to the overall sound, imho, the rythym section is a dream and I don't need to comment on Ribot, I guess. I'd definitely remove the "Idalah-Abal" version. It rocks too much! I'm quite sure those with high expectations won't feel disappointed. I also receive Agata's "Spike" and the Ostertag DVD, but couldn't enjoy them so far. Tonight Eyvind Kang + Fantomas. I'll let you know my impressions tomorrow morning.
