Knowing next to nothing about Catham's music, I was wondering if the boxset "An Angel Moves Too Fast to See" from 2002 would be a good entry to his work. The list of participants is astonishing.
This is definitely the best and easiest way to get acquainted to Rhys' music! I was still a little bit disappointed that many of his compositions (spread over various compilations) did not make it on the box set, specially that a full CD is dedicated to "Two Gongs" (62 mn !). And also the excitement of a new composition ("Massacre On MacDougal Street"), which ended up to be "For Brass", still my favorite of his compositions, but not a new one like I had expected. But besides these minor disappointment (which can only affect a complete list kind of amateur), the box is highly recommended. Patrice. PS: still puzzled that the fantastic "For Brass" was renamed "Massacre on MacDougal Street". Since I was familiar with the latter for a while (the name was mentioned in a few books/articles over the past 20 yeats), how did the title "For Brass" end up being to be selected for the Moers record? PPS: also, surprisingly, the CD compilation from the 3xCD box set has an unreleased composition not available on the box ("Guitar Cetet").
