From my girlfriend, who works in the library, came across this book in the children's section of our (very conservative "liberal" arts) university's library. "Art Attack: A Short Cultural History of the Avant-Garde" by Marc Aronson. It's exactly what it says, written for kids. He covers the expected (Dadaism, surrealism, etc) but also there is a section on the VU and the hippy movement. Van Gogh is also covered.
I was half expecting the author to be a zorn-lister.
