Some of my favorite albums of the Ambient Noise genre include Weird Little Boy & Pranzo Oltranzista. These albums aren't self-indulgent, atleast not in the way you'd think. They are an entirely different level of creative sound creation.
How can you be so sure? If one of the musicians playing in Weird Little Boy is warning everyone of the crap hidden inside that Cd I'd be suspicious, to say the least. How can you know they're not laughing at those who have purchased their "mental diarrhea"? This
is the kind of music that doesn't just pull you along with catchy riffs or by manipulating your emotions, it works by painting images that stir the curiosity and confuse your eardrums. If you are one of the ones who like either of these albums I also recommend the albums by Death Ambient (on Tzadik) Naked City's Absinthe and the albums of Tribes Of Neurot. Okay. Jerm
Death Ambient, particularly "Synaesthesia" is also among my Tzadik favorites. A great album of ambient soundscapes. I wouldn't put it at the same level as "Pranzo Oltranzista" or "Adult Themes for Voice". With the latter I don't get the feeling that there's actually something going on there. There are many ways to make noise, and Death Ambient is a very good one, imho. I can see why someone could be interested in those Patton solo efforts, but I can't share that interest. I can also see why someone could think that "Delirium Cordia" is just pretentious bullshit, but I love it. You can't please everybody.
