Hi, There's a lot of Emergency stuff on the net. As someone said, the basic idea was to maintain that core-trio of Medeski, Jorn and Ribot and just have rotating drummers. However, I just know of Wollesen, Perowsky and Rochester so far. It doesn't look like something Zorn's going to put out officially, imho. It seems more a "for the fun of it"-jam thing. Additionally, there was another group with Ribot, Zorn, and Kenny Wollensen (?) with a keyboardist. Was this an early incarnation of Electric Masada or some other one off group. It didn't sound like Masada, but rather more straight ahead jazz. Zorn was definitely dusting off some of his bop licks.
From memory this is a more of a one-off thing (though repeated at various times with variations) - I guess it'd kind of stem from the Tony Williams 'Emergency' thing, but I don't think Ribot was originally involved in that (just Zorn, Medeski and Wollesen or maybe different drummers).
What are people's impressions of the documentary overall?
I found Heuermann's focus on her own thing pretty annoying, I think a few people have made the same comment here. But for all the Zorn footage it was definitely worth watching. Maybe someone will make a version with no Heuermann commentary... ; )
