Hi gang: I'll second Dave's choice and add to it however CBS has repackaged what was the 3-LP set The Ellington Era Volume One 1927-1940 (C3L 27). Boy those numbers show how long ago I bought the LPs. The interesting thing about Ellington at that point is that you can hear and compare multiple versions of his first "hits" like "East St. Louis Toodle-oo" on both the GRP and CBS sets. set on GRP. This set is all the Brunswick and Vocalion recordings from 1926-1931. Some of the 78s used for this set are kind of skanky, but the transfers are clean and it has a 52 page book of liner notes
