<<<davis wasn't writing about zorn, of course, and most of my examples would be outside his musical world. but when i finished the piece, i was left wondering why he wrote it.>>>> So many editors love those kinds of "trend" stories, and as far as I can tell, all the better if there's really nothing to say. That's the kind of nonsense the features editor used to put up on the bulletin board when I was at a daily. I think 98% of the readers would rather have more record reviews than those bloated pseudo-analytical treatises. Favorite new things: Jenny Scheinman's "The Rabbi's Lover" and Steven Bernstein's "Diaspora Blues" w/ Sam Rivers, Doug Mathews and Anthony Cole. The horn-quartet portions of Diaspora Blues are just stunning. Parry
