First of all I want to thank Skip and Matt for their recommendations that came through this subject matter.
Reading the biography one presuemed that Holly was excited by his surroundings - which included the Jazz and folk clubs. But again, perhaps the writer of the bio doesn't have the background to carry this through in his work. As for Elvis' record collection - I am hoping that they will relase the FULL list via the web.

I know Buddy Holly lived in the Village and went to Jazz clubs. I presume to see artists like Monk, Miles, etc.
Right but it's interesting to note that he disparaged jazz early on. He had a quote like "jazz is strictly for the stay-at-home's".
But I wonder if people like Sam Phillips (Sun Records) or even Elvis listened to contemporary (meaning 50's) Jazz? Is there a Rockabilly artist that has Jazz shadings or visa versa?
It seems unlikely by reading bios on Elvis - but the thought stuck in the back of my head while reading the Buddy Holly bio.
Interesting that recently, people were able to find out just what Elvis was listening to: <http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/entertainment/music/6044339.htm>
