I read the review and am very curious, as I like Kang. Can anyone give a different perspective of this album?
Virginal Coordinates is a really great album, one of my favourite albums of last year. It opens with one of Kang's now almost 'trademark' drones (if you've heard his last album, 'Live Low To The Earth...' you'll know what I'm talking about) which eventually gives way to a lilting, sort of 'circular' violin melody, beautiful and different as his melodies usually are. The second track continues with a similar concept, this time featuring multi-layered vocals from Mike Patton. These two tracks are amazing and really blow me away each time I hear them. The rest of the album is great too, but I don't think it ever reaches the peak of the opening two tracks again. There are of course interesting compositions (mostly in a 'minimalistic' vibe), great moods created, and wonderful playing throughout... Julian.
