I'm partial to Time Out New York -- even tho it's a more general entertainment publication, those pithy little listings blurbs have turned me on to some great stuff, like Antibalas.
I'm partial to Time Out because my paycheck is always on time, and because they're the only magazine I can think of that lets the classical music editor also write about Robin Holcomb, Dimmu Borgir, Nile and Sigh... Other than that, my only MUST read is the Wire. I skim Jazz Times, Jazziz (increasingly pathetic) and Signal to Noise. I buy Blender, Revolver and Metal Maniacs from time to time. depending on who's covered. I'd love to have more time to spend reading things online, as that seems to be where the biggest boom in underground coverage has migrated. As it is, I read Perfect Sound Forever and Metal Judgement religiously. And some of my very favorite music writing of all hails from John Darnielle at Last Plane to Jakarta.
