Hi to all on the
list
here Vel Net, label
specialized in HQ new music.
We though very much about the opportuneness of
informing you
about our recent release of Laraaji's cd "My
orangeness"
and we concluded...many of you will
want
to know what this musician from New York
is doing with this new Italian label!
To those that don't know Laraaji we
say
the third chapter of the
Brian Eno's Ambient tetralogy,
e.i. "Ambient3: Day of radiance", it's his. It
was 1980.
This record is very popular among the keens on this
genre.
But his music isn't dilated and rarefied as you can
expect:
it contains and evokes inner spaces and
visions
and plays relaxing or forceful depending
on the moments you listen to it.
Laraaji's main
instrument is the zyther,
a string instrument with a
big wooden
sound box
similar
to the ancient cithara
and to Indian
santoor.
Although Laraaji conceived an electroacoustic treatment for the
zyther,
his real speciality is the variety of techniques he applies
skimming, plucking,
caressing and striking the free strings of his
instrument.
His music is always spontaneous,
alive, sensual and it can't be contained
in rigid
schemes.
After "Day of radiance"
other successful cds of Laraaji solo were published,
among them "Flow Goes
the Universe" and "Cascade".
We also have to single out his
collaborations with Channel Light Vessel, Audioactive,
Bill Nelson, Bill
Laswell (Divination) and many others.
"My orangeness" has something of the previous
Laraaji’s works but also a completely new quality.
It’s a visionary journey,
deep but also rich of humour, trough landscapes of this and other
worlds,
which coexist separately, but sometime skim one another
and blend.
A spherical work, which actively
interacts with our imagery and offers changing visions.
Laraaji plays with
some interesting musicians of the Vel Net’s artistic
community,
who enhance with other shades his palette of sounds.
