Hi Martin, Many people consider the two trios (Frisell/Driscoll/Baron and Frisell/Scherr or Krauss/Wollesen) to be completely different. Some people love the Driscoll/Baron trio and really don't care for much of Frisell's output after the trio broke up, or after "Quartet". A friend of mine basically stopped listening to frisell when he heard 'Good dog, happy man', which he likened to 'easy listening folk/rock'. On the other hand, I love the Scherr or Krause/Wollesen trio. I suppose the closest relative to that trio would be the Frisell/Krauss/Keltner trio on 'Gone, just like a train', if you wanted to make your own comparison. Most recently he's been performing with an organist and drummer (I think it is Sam Yehul and Kenny Wollesen). I read some rave reviews somewhere on the web, and would chop off a toe in exchange for a live recording of one of these recent shows... -whit On Mon, 12 Jul 2004, Martin Schmitz-Ohrndorf wrote:
hi, billfrisell.com says that there will be a release of live recordings with frisells current trios with scherr/wollesen and krauss/wollesen later this year. I been just relistening to the great live trio recording w/ baron and driscoll. what a band! Has anyone been seeing one of the frisell trios with wollesen lately? How are they compared to the "classic" frisell trio? Any thoughts? martin
