How about The Hampton Grease Band's Music to Eat?,

one of my favorite albums EVER! everything else was downhill for (the future colonel) Bruce Hampton. and Glen Phillips' playing was never better, or even equalled, for my money. a truly original rock album. imagine the allman bros. masquerading as the Mothers with Capt. Beefheart singing and you're close. sean
