"Contempt", "One Plus One", "Band of Outsiders", + early shorts (J L Godard)
Also Weekend. Cause Contempt was fairly recently re-released with a new print, this is probably only a matter of time
"Dog Star Man" (Stan Brakhage)
Any Brakhage would be useful on DVD
"The Mother & the Whore" (Jean Eustache)
also recently re-released in a new print a few years back
"Solaris" & "Stalker" (Tarkovsky)
These are planned for eventual release by Criterion
"Paris, Texas" (Wenders)
also something like the long version of Until the End of the World
"Why Does Herr R. Runn Amok?", "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul", "In the Year of 13 Moons" (Fassbinder)
pretty much any Fassbinder would be nice to see on DVD
"Le Samourai", "Les Enfants Terribles", Bob le Flambeur" (Melville)
Bob Le Flambeur is out now from Criterion; I'd guess they may do the others eventually, depending on who owns the rights
"Love Affair", "WR: Mysteries of the Organism", "Sweet Movie" (Makavejev)
check Facets <http://www.facets.org/> who've recently released these and a couple of other Makvejev films on VHS. They also distribute a lot of things that aren't easily found elsewhere in the US (though they rarely discount anything off of list price). Other films that I'd like to see on DVD include: most of the 70s and 80s Robert Altman things nearly anything by Chantal Akerman: Jeanne Dielmann, The Eighties, Sud, (though I think one or two of her nearly commercial films have come out) Antonioni's Blowup, Red Desert, Notte, Eclipse Robert Ashley's stuff (Perfect Lives, Music with Roots in the Ether, Atalanta, etc) Bertolucci's 1900, Conformist Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark Bunuel's Viridiana, the Mexican films Any of Kiarostami's recent films (besides Taste of Cherry which is out) Makhmalbaf's Nun va Guldoon; Salaam Cinema; Actor Anything by Chris Marker Deepa Mehta's Earth Panahi's Mirror Polanski's Repulsion, Knife in the Water Anything by Satyajit Ray (again some of these were recently re-released with new prints) Mikel Rouse's stuff (Dennis Cleveland, Funding, etc) Tsai's River, There's only a couple of Agnes Varda films available now I'm sure I'm neglecting a lot of other things I'd want to see if they were out. -- Herb Levy P O Box 9369 Fort Worth, TX 76147 herb@eskimo.com
