Second Zorn-evening of the festival, and a tough one. There is no way i can reasonably review these clasiscal pieces, but I will try to give some views anyway. First observation: being tired and attending "rituals" is not a good thing. Probably I was not in the right state of mind to appreciate it, but it felt tiring and somewhat slow in development. The separate parts sounded nice but I somehow kept missing the flow. I enjoyed "cimeras" much more (a caffeine dose probably helped) and would agree with Steve's comments of last year. The piece moves slowly, yet quite coherently, consisting of several parts and lasting ~40 minutes. The instrument interplay and orchestration is superb and hiding the second soprano at the side of the stage for her first parts added to the mysterious atmosphere. Overal "chimeras" was quite involving emotionally. Which is probably what I missed in "rituals", as it appeared well worked out alas without going anywhere. The performers of the Asko ensemble seemed to be comfortable with the pieces. I was impressed by the instrumentation: I saw a ficophone for the first time. This is you grab a ficus and you shake it until the leaves make some sound. :) Tonight is the world premiere (I assume!) of a piece specially composed for the Radio philarmonic orchestra (director Micha Hamel) "HERMETICUM SACRUM", for orchestra and choir. Plus "Aporias" and "Contes de fées". manolis
