has anyone out there heard the solo disc of Ellington tunes or the Waldron/Lacy/Avenel disc on Sketch?
Both are fine, but low key. The Ellington stuff is interesting in that Lacy recasts familiar Ducal material in his own image for solo saxophone. The Waldron disc is even more low key and traditional (for Z-listers). Beautifully-packaged, it's given added poignancy by its release date just before the pianist's death. Be warned though that it's mostly Avenel and Waldron. Lacy is only one hand for two tracks.
