Totally agree with the Melt Banana "No Wave" kinship. Agata's guitar fillups remind me in a way to Arto's DNA bursts. The whole boy-girl combo has a definite No-New York feel but with an extra grind element that makes them appeal to a mix crowd that fills up the house (at least in this town) of crusties, metalheads, art fucks and indie poopers. Reminds me of when Naked City jumped from its Knit Fac niche and started playing rock venues like the Marquee to a wider crowd. Another No-New York element I've enjoyed much lately was catching Outhud and !!! live. There's a big Liquid Liquid/ ESG mutant disco influence (both bands have had Outhud opening their comeback shows; anyone caught them?). Made my ass shake all night long.

I've seen a lot of these bands that are namechecking the No New York scene
and one of the few bands that I have seen that seem to have gotten it
somewhat right are the Ex-Models. Sometimes they reming me of DNA at their
most noisiest. I also feel that they have listened to Naked City a good bit
also.
Melt Banana have an abstracted kinship as well, one that I have never been
able to explain, I felt this after seeing them in Atlanta last Novenber. In
between all the high energy rock stuff there were these interludes of
electronic noise sculptures that not only captured the No Wave feel but also
made me feel a little like I was attending a Fluxus event.
