The thing that makes No Wave so titillating is the lack of real recordings. There seem to be abundant recordings by people that influenced and participated in no wave (rhys chatham, glenn branca), and those that were directly influenced by it (sonic youth, bush tetras, etc.), but so few actual no wave recordings. The basic no wave primer - "No New York" (out of print/a billion dollars on CD) the Mars and teenage jesus and the jerks retrospectives on Atavistic also, the Theoretical Girls/The Static split retrospective on Atavistic Theorectical Girls- "Theoretical Album" re-released earlier this past year and distributed through Carpark DNA last live at CBGB's, released by Avant "No New York" and "Mutant Disco" out on Soul Jazz give you a good feeling for the post-no wave stuff that retained much of no wave's sound. andrew
