Why no one wrote about Olivier Assayas' "Irma Vep"? The final moment of the film is like a John Zorn Naked City composition but with images on the screen. Not to mention the outstanding, beautiful, wonderful Maggie Chueng "as a latex-suited reincarnation of Irma Vep" (otherwise check her out in the net in that movie).
Later.
you got the point it's a great movie ;-)
Hugo Linares NP: John Zorn _The Unknown Masada_.

Many thanks to all who responded here!
One I forgot was Guy Maddin- a brilliant Canadian director, esp. with Careful (though I heard good things about Tales from the Gimli Hospital. Sets his films in the style of other early silent films but with psycho-sexual undertones. Now that I think of, sounds kind of like Todd Haynes I guess.
Another favorite Canadian director is Atom Egoyan. His latest, Ararat from last year, is one of the best of his I've seen. He loves playing with history and narrative, all of which confuse and confound the characters in his stories.
ah you're right i loved "the adjuster" and "family-viewing" is a real good movie along with soderbergh's "sex lies and videotapes" (good but not as good)
