So I just phoned home to say hi to my parents, and after the usual Christmas-day banter, my mother mentioned that I had received a letter from Canada Customs' Prohibited Imports Unit indicating that they didn't like my taste in movies, and that they had confiscated the copy of The Black Glove that I had ordered from Cult Epics. (I've been having all kinds of stuff sent my parents' house while I'm in Japan, and she didn't really want to sift through all of the boxes and envelopes to find out if they had delivered the other discs, but I'll be very interested to know if they let the copy of La Bete through while confiscating the lesbian spanking movie.) Anyway, I've apparently got 90 days to appeal their decision, though based on what little I got out of my father about the letter, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to contact these bozos; I guess I'll see when I go home on vacation next month. In the meantime, though, has anybody else on the list had to deal with similar situations before? I know gay and lesbian bookshops in Toronto are always having stuff confiscated on them, but I didn't think they'd go so far as to start sifting through personal mail to Keep The Children Safe(tm). Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. -me
