ZAPPA/MOTHERS: JUST ANOTHER BAND FROM L.A. I've been a Flo & Eddie hater for decades now, and despite an interesting take on "Call Any Vegetable," when I listen to this I think I must know how Dustin Hoffman's character felt after a couple of days of dental care from Laurence Olivier in "Marathon Man."
That's one of my Zappa favorite! I got it when it came out and it took me forever to get it (understanding the language is quite important for Side 1). Even after all these years, I still love it. "Billy the Mountain" illustrates perfectly Zappa's dadaist approach; it is silly and weird at the same time, almost a nightmarish/surrealistic feel to it. And after this tour de force, side B was almost pure rock with even a short but great solo by Frank. Patrice.
