Re: Foreign/cult films

Many thanks to all who responded here! One I forgot was Guy Maddin- a brilliant Canadian director, esp. with Careful (though I heard good things about Tales from the Gimli Hospital. Sets his films in the style of other early silent films but with psycho-sexual undertones. Now that I think of, sounds kind of like Todd Haynes I guess. Another favorite Canadian director is Atom Egoyan. His latest, Ararat from last year, is one of the best of his I've seen.
