since i'm listening to Dortmund 1976 (one of the best records ever made), it occurs to me that perhaps Braxton's 'duets with lousy comedian' album may be the worst album ever made, although Anthony Newely's 'In Love' ("We are in love, and the physical demands of it twist our bodies like pretzels of flesh, loins joined, demanding, receiving, we desert bed for floor") comes pretty close. whit and as long as i'm sending to the list, i might as well mention that, after the many accolades the Butcher/Charles/Doerner spot at Victoriaville last year received on the list, I checked them out at the London Musicians COllective festival on June 2nd at the Purcell Room (in london), and was very impressed. it's very refreshing to hear musicians listen to one another so closely. basically, for those who haven't heard them, they are a clarinet/trumpet/sax trio who play _VERY_ quietly, using various non-standard techniques, e.g., turning their instruments upside down so they played through a reservior of spit - a particularly pleasant sound to my ears, although i could do without the smell emanating from the stage. great free improv. also on the bill were CCMC w/ john oswald on sax, and two others whose names i would garble if i tried to type them on piano and vocals. i really enjoyed that bit as well, and, only knowing oswald from plunderphonics, was happy to discover his considerable talents as a sax player. the vocals were great too, in a mintonesque way.
