Hi, Kid 606 was 1st support, I was looking forward to him 'cos I liked what I had heard off the CDs. Live was good, but not great. The music is good (kind of mix between Atari Teenage Riot (in terms of speed) and Aphex Twin (in terms of changes and intricacy (for want of a better word). but live doesn't come across too well. I mean no disrespect to him, but it is hard to get excited watching some-one sat behind a couple of lap tops, that sounds harsh, but I've seen Orbital, and they have a powerful stage presence despite being surround by computers and equipment! So in short music was good, but as a live act, not so. Never heard of "Flat of Society" before, I think they are from Belgium, but they were by far one of the best support acts I've ever seen live, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much the crowd enjoyed their set. I think they were a 13 piece, jazz funk big band fusion type thing. Some singing, but mostly using voice as an instrument, if that makes sense :) Did remind me of Naked City Zorn (in fact some ppl at the gig assumed it was Zorn), in a good way, was original compositions as far as I know. I've seen Fantomas every London gig (3 or 4 times), and again, they were awesome. Opened with the entry from the new CD, then that went into Cape Fear, actually felt a shiver go down when that started! Lombardo had some new toys. some cymbals t hat were on their sides, so he could hit them one way, stop, then spin them the other way, something that looked like a spaghetti jar, and a few other bits n bobs. Sorry I don't play anything so I can't describe them better ;) Buzz played well, Patton was in conductor/workman mode, i.e. only talking to introduce the band. Sat night is GAY night their after bands finished, and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) was playing their, so he introduced Lombardo as Old Spice, Buzz as fag Spice, can't remember what he named Trev, and himself Shit Spice, and pretended to smoke a spliff. Then went back to serious mode, makes a stark contrast from old FNM/Mr Bungle Patton! In fact Trev, seemed to be the only band member obviously enjoying himself throughout the gig! They played parts off the new album, blending into Pages from the 1st album, and soundtrack stuff. Did the usual Chariot Choogle and Simply Beautiful covers, not a bad thing , I love them. Def one of my fave bands live, a lot more depth to the music Al www.admars.co.uk
