Interesting that you mention his drinking? It sounded as if he was a tad lit at the beginning of "Fragments of a Rainy Season." During the first part of the set, his words sounded very slurred and became much clearer towards the end of the set as he sobered up(?). However, his piano playing didn't seem to be effected: casting doubt on the theory. Has he been known to partake of rock star excesses in substances? I always got the impression that all the craziness seen from him tended to be the acts of a sober man (albeit a slightly crazy one). Am I wrong in this?
(I guess about the mid-80s, a few years before I got mired there) had been rather less auspicious -- he reportedly got so wasted he fell off his seat while playing, and insisted on offering refunds to everyone. Of course, I know many performers who wouldn't think that was necessarily the worst way to get through a gig in Orlando, where crowds could be pretty clueless.
