OK, this is not really a review. i listened to the album ONCE at work today, and i'd have to say it's probably the coolest album i've heard from Douglas, at least on first impression. many of the tunes are fairly "rocking", and there are electronics burbling below much of it. Marc Ribot seems to be playing from a different bag than usual, and does some wonderful stuff. there are some other interesting production touches beyond the electronics, like the way the drums are reversed about 2/3 of the way through the first track. it seems like the type of album that has alot to reveal over repeated listenings. there's alot going on, but it doesn't seem cluttered. style-wise? jeez, i don't know. definitely not straight jazz, but not going for all out jazz-rock or electronics either. i'm slightly embarrassed to say i have not heard Witness yet, so i can't compare them. sean Hi, Steve's comments on the new Dave Douglas album made me even more curious. Anybody care to add a few more comments? I'm curious where this album would fit stylewise (sorry for asking such questions on the Zorn list! ;-) I've been listening more and more to Jamie Saft and I think he is really great. Enormous variety and much talent. I'm curious what he came up with together with DOuglas. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8.
