I've heard Frisell mentioned in reverent tones by more than few people (most of whom are not inhabitants of Planet Zorn). They lump him in with Metheny, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Robben Ford, etc., as one of the big names in guitar jazz. While Frisell is not exactly in the same camp stylistically he is obviously as famous and respected by the people who listen to such artists. Not ashamed to admit that he likes Scofield's "Blue Matter" disc, tom In a message dated 6/4/02 4:35:11 PM Eastern Daylight Time, mr.dave@attbi.com writes:
Yes, he sure does. My sense of it is that his group is as loyal as say, Naked City fans, but the group is MUCH larger. I've run into several people just in day-to-day life that are huge Frisell fans. Can't really say that about Zornlisters.
That said, Frisell may well lose some of those guys with the direction he's going now. I suspect that this CD might be the end of the line for the Americana thing. Bill is playing a lot now with his Intercontinental Quartet. That band includes a Vinicius Cuantaria from Brazil, Sidiki Camara from Mali and Christos Govetas from Greece. They're recording a CD this spring/summer.

But, somebody said he really liked the CD with Holland & Jones, so I'm wondering: Does he have a new group of hardcore fans, far away from Zornlist land??
