Q: Best Yello for house fans
Hello everyone, I love all of Yello's music, and I don't really think that it fits into any single category. When I listen to their albums, I tend not to think of styles (or even song titles). However: If you had a friend who is a big fan of house music (and music in general, of course), what would be the best Yello album to be their introduction to Yello? At the moment, my hunch is that Zebra might be the best starting point. But some of my favorite songs are on Flag and One Second. Baby seems to be my favorite "album." Pocket Universe gets a little too weird at times. Now that I think about it, Motion Picture might be another contender for a good album for house fans. What do you folks think? Obviously, after hearing the first Yello album, a new fan is probably going to want to hear everything - but that takes hours and hours! I just want to pick a good first CD. Later, Brian
Hi Brian, I've roamed around in the house scene as aid for sounds on productions, small radio stations and as a photographer on House Parties. I'm not into house music personally. It lacks the drive I do find in Yello, FLA etc. But I've got in contact with many of the Underground Dutch house DJ's, and all of them know Yello or are Yello Fans to some extend. For obvious reasons. Many of them pick Zebra as the Yello House album, if it didn't feature the horns and voice of Dieter. I never heard a clear reason for choosing Zebra as the more house like Yello album, but my guess is that it features the typical synthbass-loops and riddles, that pump up the mood if looped endless (like in house). Zebra would be the first choice for me. It's clean and very electronic (appart from the horns). Then Pocket Universe would blend in with attention to the speedy tracks. For real dyhard electronic house fans, who appreaciate music, Solid Pleasure would be the third one to introduce. THe experimental motion in this album should get their attention. I'm a complete House head. It would be my music of choice. Now I don't see how I used to dance to techno back in the day. House is mainly about creating a feeling... A happy feeling. I love the world and everybody feeling. House is mainly based on Funk, Latin Rhythms, and Jazz. There has been some amazing Latin House coming out the last few years. That would be my favorite style but there are more. Maybe that's why I love S.A.X. and On The Run so much. I would say Motion picture would be most house like to me cause of the jazz influences but Zebra would be good also. Julz
Okay, here's my input. Take the Jungle Bill 12". My copy says it's a promotional not for sale, but I got it from GEMM.com I think. now, my husband is a huge househead. Take this song, and it mixes great with his ryuichi sakamoto "love and hate" - specifically the "Hate Mix". Both of these songs have big fat sax and that house sound. I don't personally care one way or another about house - and figured Yello ended up with some house remixes because (1) Yello is da bom and people got to give em props, and (2) it's a way for them to appeal to a wider audience and keep up with what's going on in the scene. Maybe one of these months/years if I EVER get all my electronic crap set back up again I'll record it and put it on kazaa or something. (been remodeling, whole house upside down indefinately) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Willoughby" <brianw@sounds.wa.com> To: <yello@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 1:58 PM Subject: [Yello] Q: Best Yello for house fans
