Greetings from a newbie
Hello, This is my first time to the list. I've been a YELLO® fan since the early eighties. I saw the video for "The Evenings Young" on MTV and I was hooked. I'm 39 years old and live in Illiniois USA. I am an avid Mac user and have all my YELLO® on my computer in iTunes . Any other Mac users out there? Has to be smooth baby smooth.... Jon K.
Yo folks! I'm a Swede and became a Yello-fan when I first heard Goldrush in 1986 or 1987. The first album I bought was You gotta say yes to another excess. And yes, I'm a Mac user too. /Henrik B.

Cool to discover how international our community is. And the amount of Mac users. I earn a living with macs by my side. 2 x Power Mac Dual G4 1 Ghz with 1.25 gigabyte of mem, connected to Barco monitors. And there's a collection of power books, bondi blue's and a lonely i Mac, with a dusty collection of 7100, 8100, 9600 DP, Centris and so on... At home I lack the funding and budget of a large company and so I'm left with a pc, but have my litle bronze keyboard powerbook close at hand. Ah sweet Mac, you're the Chevy in Computerland. Rene
I wasn't a mac fan until my father bought a PC. The hours I spend on fixing it... irrational crashes and strange anomalies just drove me mad. Even today when I touch a PC weird things start to happen. Now days he has a Mac and doesn't need my support for anything. First Apple was a IIgs (with Woz signature), then a Mac IIvx with Audiomeda II card and SampleCell. These days working as a New Media Designer on a 400 G4 Tower and TiBook. I'm ready for a new Desktop can't wait to get the new fast & shiny G5 revision B. Playing with the new Panther these days... it is super fast! I highly recommend the new iSight with iChat AV. The video chat is fantastic! Any people out there with an iSight would like to chat? Sorry to post off topic stuff here. Us Mac users are so passionate about our machines. Why? Many reasons come to mind with the word elegant but mainly cause they just work... Julz On Thursday, July 10, 2003, at 09:37 AM, Rene wrote:

PC hardware is more dynamic, more stable, and less expensive than Mac hardware. PC hardware enjoys competition and variety. Macs get what Apple decrees.
Your problem with your father's PC is surely a /Windows/ problem, not a hardware or "PC" problem, and there, my friend, I can only say, "Wow, what a surprise. No. Really. Seriously? Windows problems? Never! Ha!" Use GNU/Linux and your problems will vanish. But it is inaccurate to blame Windows problems on hardware.
Even today when I touch a PC weird things start to happen. Well, that's easy. Don't touch the Wintel box! :)
Now days he has a Mac and doesn't need my support for anything. That's the funniest thing I have ever heard!
Macs use MacOS, on Apple-approved and made hardware. There is no excuse for crashes, period. Windows, for all its many, legion, plethora of faults, runs on an amazing variety of hardware mixes, and it works. Crashes like crazy, but hey! Look! Look at all the millions of different combinations of hardware that it could potentially deal with! Macs don't have an excuse for crashing, Windows does to some degree, with regard to hardware.
Playing with the new Panther these days... it is super fast! So you are already using GNU/Linux. Well, BSD, but close enough.
Us Mac users are so passionate about our machines. It's a religion. You have faith in Steve "God" Jobs. Just please, please spare us the crusade.
Why? Many reasons come to mind with the word elegant but mainly cause they just work... Heee hee hee! You are a funny man!
--gcr, your GNU/Linux elitist for the day! [In reality, I am not flaming you. It's just so much fun, and so easy, to rattle the cages of Mac disciples! Death to monopolies and proprietary technology!]
For my part I only hope to get my copy of the next album of our favorite group... Feeling it like a piece of wood : warm, precious and delicious. And you ? ... GREG
I wonder if Yello run Emagic Logic Audio on Mac or PC? I think Logic started on Mac, but many run it on PC (the PC version is still available for download, but has been discontinued). There are many ways to look at the available computer system options. Most are in the gray area of opinions and aesthetics. But a few things can be objectively determined. [ Macs use MacOS. PC's use a multitude. PC hardware is more dynamic, [ more stable, and less expensive than Mac hardware. PC hardware [ enjoys competition and variety. Macs get what Apple decrees. PC hardware is not more stable. The #1 factor driving the industry is competition for the lowest price in a commodity market. It is not surprising to me that PC hardware fails far more frequently than other computers (Mac, Sun, SGI, etc.). It has been my experience that the hardware is low quality and unreliable. Most people ignore this shortcoming because replacements are cheap and largely compatible. It is a myth that PC hardware is less expensive than Mac hardware. If you compare similar specifications, you often get more features for less money when buying a Mac. However, the truth is that when you don't need the extra features or cannot afford them, the Mac no longer becomes feasible. [ Your problem with your father's PC is surely a /Windows/ problem, [ not a hardware or "PC" problem, and there, my friend, I can only [ say, "Wow, what a surprise. No. Really. Seriously? Windows [ problems? Never! Ha!" True. In my experience, crashes are Windows' fault, where fried hardware is the PC maker's fault. [ Use GNU/Linux and your problems will vanish. Not if parts of your system die due to the poor manufacturing process. [ But it is inaccurate to blame Windows problems on hardware. I agree. [ Macs use MacOS, on Apple-approved and made hardware. There is no [ excuse for crashes, period. As a software developer, I can say that any complex program can crash. It has nothing to do with hardware. The only way for Apple to prevent all possible crashes is to write an operating system which is not very complicated. I'll bet that GIMP or other complex Linux programs can crash, although they won't bring down the whole system. Now that Mac OS X runs Unix, there is no excuse for bringing down the system, even if individual applications crash. [ >Playing with the new Panther these days... it is super fast! [ So you are already using GNU/Linux. Well, BSD, but close enough. He, he. Now it's my turn to laugh. GNU/Linux is a clone of the real Unix which is BSD. So, I would say that GNU/Linux is close enough! [ >Us Mac users are so passionate about our machines. [ It's a religion. You have faith in Steve "God" Jobs. Just please, [ please spare us the crusade. I'm not a believer, but I do have Macs sitting next to my Sun and other Unix computers. But regarding any crusade, you should be careful about how much you say. Most of what you wrote was dead-on right, but a few statements slipped by which are PC religion. [ --gcr, your GNU/Linux elitist for the day! Unix is great! Long live Unix! I should admit that I am mostly anti-PC, if I were to pick a religion, and that's because the PC hardware is not allowed to grow free without being compatible with 1970's technology. [ [In reality, I am not flaming you. It's just so much fun, and so [ easy, to rattle the cages of Mac disciples! It's all in good fun, [ and believe me when I tell you that when it comes to computers, [ the only thing I really care about is that people are able to [ /choose/ what they want ... that /choices/ be available. Death [ to monopolies and proprietary technology!] I agree. The single biggest problem with the PC market is that most people buy the hardware and OS without knowing they have a choice. The second biggest problem is probably that folks think Mac is the only other choice! Brian

Oh my God... What did I unleash when I wrote down my mac inventory... :-) Let's bring it down to this: Whenever I'm facing a deadline, my mac or pc smells it. And without any hasitation, they independently start to sabotage the workflow. They just know, they are alive, these silicon bastards. They look at me with that glaring eye, and inside they laugh, inside they can't wait to knock a bit of a byte and have it endup where it doesn't belong. And just before they go into a system halt they seem to call out to me: Get a life! Go wood choppin'in Canada, Go to Iceland and become a sheep-butcher, Go to Switserland and start painting cows Lila, Or whatever... Rene

Hey Jonathan, I too am from Illinois (Chicago), first heard Yello in '83 (I'm 37), and use a Mac, but am fairly new to that machine. Pumping Velvously, DG --- Jonathan Kamm <kammagic@comcast.net> wrote:
