I happened to be intrigued by a recent post from Jonathon. It seems both Jonathon and Julz and probably the rest of you know of the various covers. I since had a squizz around and have found that there are a lot of references made to the alternate spelling to Turob vs Turbu. I have seen a cover from Poland where the back is quite different again-it has no blue band and only horizontal song title at the bottom, its on eBay also. Then there is my copy which has a big blue band on the back which is blank. Others have writing in the blue band. The other one you mentioned the other day is different again. Oh then there's the promos. Id like to hear about the others also, or even better see them. To any new comer I would suggest One Second for same reasons as Casper mentioned. I would then have to compile a best of myself with songs such as Blue Green, Homma Hossa, Dr Van Steiner, Capri Calling, Moon On Ice, Desire, Otto Di Catania, The Race, Of Course I'm Lying, Ceil Overt, Downtown Samba, Koladi Ola, Monolith, She's Got A Gun, On Track, Drive Driven, The Evenings Young, Prisoner of his mind, Bostich, Life is a Snowball, La Habanera, Angel No, The Rhythm Divine v2. I'm sure I have left of heaps of must hear songs. Alternativley I would choose one of those Russian bootleg Cd's-most likely a title called Best Of Relax-its cool. Then they would more than likely seek out each and every album, just as you would expect :-) Paulo

I was glad to see someone else has ended up with a Russian bootleg - but been happy with it. When I ordered mine, the company said they ship from Tennessee...! Well, it's not difficult to learn the Russian alphabet, here you can start: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Track/7635/alphabet.html It takes maybe 2 hours to learn them. And after all, the song names are well known. -- Jussi Salmi http://staff.cs.utu.fi/~jussalmi/
Hi all! I got this story from Jonas WÃ¥rstad's news list. It's about a fan, Luke Oliver, who recently met Dieter. Quite interesting. Some of the content is about Yello playing live! Story: "I met Dieter in Glasgow a few months back at a conference (It was 'Musicworks' in Glasgow - I went as an educationalist, and Dieter was one of the main speakers). He joked that I must work for the Secret Service, as I knew so much about Yello. I got a photo and Promo signed too! I met him beforehand in the city centre itself, then he was interviewed and we watched and asked questions at the end. The stuff about the family I got when I met him in the town centre. The other stuff about live possabilities etc. I asked him in the Q & A session at the end. He said that Yello are exploring the possiblities of playing live, and wish to combine sound with images - the only problem being Boris' shyness. "I'm never afraid to make a fool of myself", he said. Sounds like good news if it goes ahead! He also said that 'Jingle Bells' is a project/song that neither he nor Boris are particularly proud of. Interesting! Dieter is a very, very proud family man. His accent was the strongest I've ever heard. I asked him about Boris, and he told me that he was travelling to Berlin for 'The Eye' launch party. I asked about Eleonore and the family, and he said that 'she is a young lady of 19 now, which makes me feel very old', he then said 'they are all (the family) in the new video for Planet Da Da and my youngest son sings vocals on the new single', I said 'Francis?' he said 'hey, you're the man', then turned to his assistant, and said 'maybe this guy works for the Secret Service!'. Thinking back, he was probably quite worried!!! He said Boris is a natural comedian, but very, very shy, when I had asked him about Yello playing live and whether or not we could get a live performance. He said they are exploring possibilities. He said that Boris often asks him to sing a song in a certain way and he can't, hence getting in the different singers. Shirley Bassey story: He said that he had heard that Shirley Bassey was a bit of a pain to work with, making demands and throwing temper tantrums. He was then told by the mutual friend that had introduced her to Yello and vice-versa [Hubertus von Hohenloe], that she liked 'aristorcracy' in the words of Dieter. Dieter then joked 'I have a friend, who also happens to be a Prince, so when I went to meet Shirley - I took him too!' He then continued that when they went to record The Rhythm Divine, he forgot the Prince! - 'Shirley was not happy!' he joked. 'There were 3 steps to the studio and she asked where the elevator was!' He wasn't sure if she was joking! Billy MacKenzie story: Billy really was a Prima Donna, and apparently has a similar reputation to Shirley! He loves nice shoes though, and will always judge people on first meeting them on their shoes! - One guy once had a go at him and Billy replied 'With shoes like that, I wouldn't even talk to me!!!' He said a lot of stuff that I already knew, like he agreed with the interviewer that 'She's Got a Gun' is very Film Noir in approach, and that Tierry Mugler had wanted a song about a beatiful girl, with something mysterious and deadly about her! He was also asked the old question about remixes and how he and Boris felt about Yello's work being remixed. If he cannot hear Yello, he wanders what the point is (Dieter's view on remixes)" Cheers Chris
wow that really is a surprises to me i love that track! Its the best christmas song by my taste. The sound quality on that single is mind blowing. Santa Club mix is such a jam! You can't help but play it loud. Julz On Dec 9, 2003, at 3:02 PM, C.C.R. wrote:

Very cool to give us this story... Thanks Chris, very interesting ! GREG
I wonder why nobody mentions "Solid Pleasure" as their favorite album. I am still fascinated by the high quality sound bits and the innovative arrangements by Boris & Carlos. By the way, my alltime favorite is Bostich (the 80-85 remix) Yours, Georg ------------------------------------------- Versendet durch AonWebmail (webmail.aon.at)
Agreed. Maybe it is because I turned on to this album when it was first released but 'Solid Pleasure' is my favourite. It's their least commercial, but their most experimental album. I remember when Claro Que Si was released and being disappointed because it didn't reach the standards set by Solid Pleasure. Don't get me wrong, they've done some fine sounds, "Desire" probably being my all-time favourite track of theirs but the innovativeness, originality and uniqueness of Solid Pleasure sets it apart. Bostich kicks ass, it's like being on speed without taking the drug. Regards Patrick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Georg Plank" <georg.plank@aon.at> To: "The moon: beautiful. For my part Solid Pleasure is like a primary album with some interesting stuffs indeed but NOT the real Yello's touch found in Baby or Flag per exemple. I think it's more important for a fan than a person who never heard about Yello... I don't know, I think the "Yello feel" has changed a lot over the years, though its still easy to recognise their songs. Solid Pleasure is my favourite album as well, and I think it's because its innovativeness. And it seems that they have some real "anger" and effort in that album. It has some very special moments. The newer albums are very different from their early stuff, but still there is something similar to the early ones. Listened closely, there are a lot of different sounds in the background of the songs, many more than with other bands, so maybe that's where that special feel comes. Boris really is a sound freak. What I've found very peculiar, is that the newer albums have always sounded incoherent to me at first, but they have really grown on me afterwards. I wrote a small review of The Eye recently, but already now I think quite differently about it. Last night I listened to it, and I loved it although I was more critical in the review. -- Jussi Salmi http://staff.cs.utu.fi/~jussalmi/
In The Eye's Don Turbelento,Dieter uses a part of the same lyrics as on Solid Pleasure. I think it was track 5 or 6.(Magneto?) That very slow hypnotic trip. He said something like: Akiadabiliberty..enz.. or something..(lol)(hard to explain in letters) Cheers Arno ----- Original Message ----- From: "jussalmi" <jussalmi@it.utu.fi> To: "The moon: beautiful. Yeah, i noticed that too. But I didn't think it was exactly the same, in Solid Pleasure he says something like "akialargiotelevisione...", but it's very close. Sounds Italian, but I can't recognise the words. -- Jussi Salmi http://staff.cs.utu.fi/~jussalmi/
