RE: Fan and Fannets
I guess it is naff slang like 'biker' and 'bikeret......male and female possibilites of a word. Perhaps it is an 'English' thing?? I cannot think of a better way to explain - do you understand now L?? Ps...thanks for the greeting from Canada! cheers....Amanda
I don't understand why "fan" can't cover both the men and the women - we don't really need "fanette," now do we? And so it's covered: Greetings from Massachusetts in the US! On 1/31/06, A WRIGHT <kwirkykweations@btinternet.com> wrote:

Yes, from Texas I also add "ette" to the end of various words to feminize them. -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+tourguide=austexecotours.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of A WRIGHT Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2006 4:48 PM To: yello@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Yello] RE: Fan and Fannets I guess it is naff slang like 'biker' and 'bikeret......male and female possibilites of a word. I guess that cute-sy feminizing ending would be necessary, IF the definition of 'FAN' was: "a Male that is an avid follower of an artform or artist..." but I don't see that in any of the dictionaries I have looked in. Sometimes the habit of adding gender denoting endings to words aids in the destruction of the language, along with peoples hypersensitivity to real words that have been taken on in slang to represent acts or anatomical parts of humans, or used to demean others, which just won't do, words such as Dick, Cock, Ass, Uranus, (myanus), Dickie, Cougar, Hamster, Chick, his/her, dumb, Blind, Fat, Short, Crap, Retarded....... Let's all try to reinstate the beautiful colour of the english language, and restore it to the level it used to be. none of this word 'LITE' crap To each his own, Thanks, Laurens van Graft The Grip Guy (thegripguy@rogers.com) All your gymnastics grip needs right here! Gee, I would have thought the artistic folks on this list would appreciate a little language enhancement, if only to serve the purpose of my personal whims. Isn't that what art is, anyway?! Ya know??? It has nothing to do with necessity at all. Besides, now, let's define what the "English" language is anyways. it aint' American or Canadian either. technically. well, I haven't seen your picture, so I cannot liken your image to that of a chien-ette, dare I use an endearing feminine farm term, bitch? I'm sure that If I did, someone perhaps even you would not understand the complexities, the subtext, and the precursive discussions that would lead me to present this term. I see the humeration in your missivette, and have absolutely no misinterpretation. So, what happens when a BITCH meets a DICK?, you wind up with an average of 5 cwoocee wootcee puppies and puppettes, wait a minute, puppetts, how did we get onto that topic... oh, and if you and T enjoy adding suffixes to words that cause their meaning to become a diminutive from their root, (novel vs. novelette for example) I say go for it. It won't bother me, other than the fact that you would sell each other short-ette on your opinion of each other, if you can follow my reasoning. Once again, no malice taken or intended at this end... <;} Laurens van Graft The Grip Guy (thegripguy@rogers.com) All your gymnastics grip needs right here! PODCASTING IS CHANGING THE WORLD!
