Off the Yello subject, I know, but if you like Propaganda, get ahold of "Outside World" - their collection of 12" / unreleased mixes and DVD of different video versions of 'Dr. Mabuse' (one of the best tracks of the '80's), 'Duel' and 'P-Machinery'. - Mike (mike@angryjester.com) -----Original Message----- From: yello-bounces+mike=angryjester.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+mike=angryjester.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Paul Anderson Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 12:44 PM To: The moon: beautiful. Speaking of Propaganda, the vinyl version of A Secret Wish is so much better than the CD version, n'est pas? Paul _______________________________________________ Yello mailing list Yello@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/yello
"Oh, why does it hurt when my heart misses the beat..." Thanks for that recommendation, didn't know about that, look forward to hearing some different mixes. Dr Mabuse is a brilliant track, not seen a video of it ever though, I'll have a look around for it for sure. Talking about Mabuse... Has anyone of you seen the actual Black & White series of movies about dr. Mabuse? Very cool. Dr. Mabuse, a vilin, died at some point. But this didn't prevent him from still being the mastermind behind all kinds of criminal activity. He managed to occupy a body from a different person and -live on- so to speak. At the end when the police managed to oprahand the criminals, dr. Mabuse would leave it's host and search for another victem. The style of these series, or the way it was filmed was all by the book. In fact.. I have a couple of these old books that explain how one should ceate suspens and use different lighting and camera angels for criminals and the good guys. A style of filming that is so unique, and which I've never seen after that... at least like the Mabuse films. You might have seen these tricks... where the eyes are highlighted with extra light, with the surrounding being covered in near dark. Or just the silhouet of a person and the mouth being visible. One of the "Mabuse" videos on the dvd is very much in that style, sort of Fritz Lang / German expressionist style that is very ahead of it's time (1984). There's another "Mabuse" video that's typical mid-80's tripe with lots of big hair and close ups of the band pretending to play instruments with a backdrop video of the first release. I fell in love with the cinematic style of the track when I first heart it, and although the 'Secret Wish' cd version is similar to the 12", I prefer the 12". I find it somewhat ironic that both Mertens/Dorper (Propaganda) as well as Boris have such a cinematic style but never went on to a career such as Danny Elfman did. - Mike (mike@angryjester.com) _____ From: yello-bounces+mike=angryjester.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:yello-bounces+mike=angryjester.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Rene Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 5:07 PM To: The moon: beautiful.
