Subject: [Yello] Rene's Top 10 of Yello Rory, this is an absolute torture :-) Making me write down the top ten list, gives me a feeling that I'm discarding all the tracks that didn't make it into the list. At the end I will also come clean and tell what is in my opinion the worst project Yello had something to do with. Yes I will. [Rory] I was thinking the same thing. Luckily it's just an exercise and we're not actually limiting ourselves to just the top ten songs we pick. I wouldn't want to do that. Judging from the responses so far you can see that the landscape is very flat. In other words, no one song stands out as the absolute favorite so far, everyone has a piece of Yello that they like for whatever reason. There isn't much difference in any of the diverse work Yello has produced, you can find something great in most of the tracks - and that's really their biggest accomplishment IMHO. But, Rene, I disagree with your denunciation of Yello for doing Jingle Bells. Besides the fact that it's a great song :) Dieter's lyrics are very cool "The early years, they go too fast. But sometimes they always last". Ask anyone who has kids how those lines resonate. No, old fellow, I would ask you to direct your cannons at the Ford Fairlane suite. *That* is worthy of a good sound spanking. Andrew Dice Clay's shtick *SUCKS*. And for Yello to bow to that level really *SUCKS*. I've got the EP and I won't even play it. Luckily I didn't have to buy it, someone gave me it. Sigh.... here we go.. please forgive me .. oh precious non top ten ones... Nr.1. Sometimes (dr. Hirsch) Nr. 2. Let Me Cry Nr. 3. Dr. van Steiner (instr. & vocal) Nr. 4. To The Sea (Stina makes me bleed) Nr. 5. Desert Inn Nr. 6. She's Got a Gun (vocal) Nr. 7. Moon on Ice Nr. 8. Le Secret Farida (I can sing it, but have no idea what I'm blabbing about) [Rory] I have a copy of Jingle Bells sung by an Inuit fellow and I can sing the words in Inuktitut, but also have no real idea what he's saying. Nr. 9. Rock Stop Nr. 10. Coast To Polka Alright done. With a broken heart. [ Rory ] Rene, Cheer up. Turn around. Take a deep breath. See? Your entire collection is still there to be enjoyed!
Hi Rory, Always nice to read comments like that. The Ford Fairlane is indeed a bit too easy for something like the Yello Concept. But perhaps I just despice the Jingle Bell track, because I sure hate Xmass to the last needle of that silly tree. - I just had my ears stuck to the speakers and listened to the Break Light Mix of The Race. Now that's a piece of inginuity. Taking a classic out of the box, and restyle it into a more modern Yello. Another strong evidence of Yello being so unique, is that every albums seems to shed light on yet another style. No album can be compared to the other. Which makes it so difficult for me to say which one is best. I can only say that a certain album touches my soul because of the memories that come with it. And the more the those memeories are hurting or treasured the better the album seems to become. Tool in Rose gave me goosbumbs the first time I heard it. And it kept on doing so on certain despare moments. Ergo, the decision to have it played at my funeral and have the crowd Shake and Shiver. Rene
