Everyone: Here are two links explaining the fascinating story behind WHY the 1984 Carlos Peron album "Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted" is being reissued at its original speed (LP was recorded to play at 45 RPM) and with a bonus CD "at" 33 RPM. I bought this vinyl way back in 1986, but never knew that playing it at the wrong speed had become a practice among some DJs. Huh. And as for the other CDs in the series, these new bonus tracks are really gonna fill in some gaps. http://www.rykodistribution.com/artist_title.php?artist_id11319&media_id=163... http://www.darklight.co.za/55/musicshop.php?uid=45056x45060&sid=17617f35225e...
- "Nothing is true; everything is permitted" (1984) (double CD - the original album on one CD, and a second CD with the album played at 33 rpm. Someone said that Carlos' site explained why, but I couldn't find anything - anyone have the URL for the appropriate page?

Thank you for the links. It is actually fairly common that white labels have no speed printed on them (obviously!) and its a guess, most are easy to guess, others, well tend to be ambiguous, and as Yello and Carlos say about music in general, it's not a definitive, the listener is expected to have their own interpretation. I have a number of non white labels, also with no speed printed, then some printed with in my opinion the wrong speed, and some that sound good at both speeds. But by and large most DJ turntables have a +/- 6% speed. DJ friend I know when he gets a tune will listen at both speeds, and try different pitches. That sometimes inspires him into a mix set. OK. Normally I'd just ignore reading something like this as just a ranting of an uneducated fool, but I've got to get this clarified. I concur. Very unlikely to be true. It has long been my observation that, despite the allegedly amicable split between yello+now and Mr. Tapes and Effects, that Señor Pero'n has had a visible descent into bitterness. The fury of "A Hit Song" simply cannot be ignored. And this contrasts the increased quality and soul and depth of sound from the "remaining members".
It's almost comedy, no? Well, /almost/. We'll get a laugh one day when it's revealed that the blurb was penned by ol' Chucky himself. "Carlos Peron was the founder of globally renowned cult act Yello...." _THE_ founder? Hm. That doesn't sound right to me. "...initiator of the world___s first ever video clip, The Evening___s Young from the group___s second album Claro Que Si." I'm not sure what this even means. First ever MUSIC VIDEO, certainly not. First ever VIDEO CLIP... well, The Evening's Young isn't exactly a video clip so much as a .... music video? Which brings us back to doh doh doh doh.... Kind of a confusing statement at any interpretation. Does anyone have any light that can be shed? "Following the fifth Yello album You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess..." Solid Pleasure..one... Claro Que Si..two.. YGSYTAE... FIVE! Perfect. Fifth album.... fifth album..... Well, it's official. I'm going back to remedial math, since I clearly cannot count properly..... OH NOES! I'S MISSING TWO WHOLE ALBUMS AIN'T NEVER HEARD OF! "... which was released as the world___s first ever Compact Disc in 1983..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD seems to indicate otherwise. Have not done a definitive scour. Anyone else have data? "Carlos left the group to embark on an ambitious solo career." Spin. Probably goes a little something more like this: Boris, increasingly adept, finds Chucky both superfluous and redundant, as well as a major downer. "Many music critics agree that Yello lost their raw edge with the departure of Peron." Spin, again. Methinks more appropriate would be that Yello was relieved of a very seriously negative cloud with the riddance of ol' Chuckles. Since The Great Alleviation, as I am now calling it, I have seen a very steady increase in refinement, quality, and soul in what I opine is the world's most colourful band. Ah, ah, ah, ah... made a funny.... most COLOURful band.... Because they are colourful characters.... and the band name is a colour, mostly.... snort. Guffaw. Sniff. Anyway. What, is there no edge to Tied Up In Gear? No edge to Si Señor The Hairy Grill? I /beg/ to differ. Especially with the latter. It doesn't get much grindier and shoutier and /edge/ier than that. Even Moby's Animal Rights doesn't touch the rolling, screaming, howling, bumping energy of SSTHG. Corncobs, I get a bit bumpy just thinking about it. Right. Chucky Peron? Pass. --gcr

Taken from the same article : "By the time the compact disc was introduced worldwide digital recording and mixing was becoming commonplace among recording artists and producers known for their interest in fidelity. Two examples from 1982 are Signals by Rush and The Nightfly by Donald Fagen." Need I say More? Well, Yes, this last part reminds me of Foghorn Leghorn (WB cartoon character)I say, ... is the world's most colourful band. Ah, ah, ah, ah... made a funny.... most COLOURful band.... Because they are colourful characters.... and the band name is a colour, mostly.... snort. Guffaw. Sniff. My Mom says you're a loud-mouthed schnook! (lil' egghead would say)

About all I have to say here is that the title is certainly right, but it goes too far. It would be enough to say "everything is wrong."

The world's first compact disc ? In the UK I thought it was something from Dire Straits as an album, first cd single was supposed to be World Party and ship of fools, but I could be wrong on both of those. I do however think that it could have been one of the first albums to use digital recording / mastering. This may apply if the disc was a DAD type (opposed to ADD or DDD). Carlos Peron the founder of Yello? Founding member maybe, but the rest for discussion or clarification. We need Jonas' book! The Raw edge of Yello lost when Carlos left? Well this I do agree with. The albums with Carlos invovled do have parental advisory, and are less about the boy-meets- girl and surrounding scenarios, and other esoteric subjects. I don't need to name tracks from those albums do I? OK I know I am generalising on the later albums, but a few tracks from those early albums are very raw. Or less refined. With respect to 'many music critics' lets have their names! -- Regards, Nic. We are the architects, not the victims of our own destiny
