Hello all! I thought of rating the different Yello CDs at my Yello page (www.seste.net/warlock/yello.htm). But it's better to have many peoples' opinions, so I thought that you maybe wanted to rate the Yello CDs (from 1-10) too. If you could reply the message like this (this is my opinion): Solid Pleasure - 4 Claro Que Si - 5 You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess - ? Stella - 5 The New Mix In One Go - ? One Second - 6 Flag - 9 Baby - 10 Essential - 10 Zebra - 8 Hands On Yello - 8 Pocket Universe - 6 Excentrix Remixes - 6 Motion Picture - 9 And by the way, Motion Picture is just very good! I got the CD today. TheWarlock
Here are my ratings (quite different): Solid Pleasure - 8 Claro Que Si - 8 You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess - 7 Stella - 9 The New Mix In One Go - 8 One Second - 10 Flag - 8 Baby - 7 Essential - 7 Zebra - 6 Hands On Yello - 10 (I'm a sucker for a good remix) Pocket Universe - 9 Excentrix Remixes - 6 (I said a GOOD remix) Motion Picture - 7 These rankings would be for overall greatness. If I was just comparing them to other Yello albums, my scores would again be very different. If I had to guess, I'd say you picked up on Yello around 87-88, Warlock. Would I be right? ------------------------------ Reality is a matter of opinion
Here are my ratings Solid Pleasure - 7 Claro Que Si - 8 You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess - 4 Stella - 9 The New Mix In One Go - 10 (this is the one and only Yello reference) One Second - 9 Flag - 6 ( I can't hear the race anymore...) Baby - 4 (No innovations) Essential - 7 Zebra - 5 Hands On Yello - 6 Pocket Universe - 7 Excentrix Remixes - 6 Motion Picture - 7
Pursuant to Warlock's query about rating Yello albums, can anyone tell me what people have against Pocket Universe? Of the newer albums, it's almost always the least liked. I think it's absolutely brilliant! When I really want to rattle the windows or annoy my neighbors at work, I crank up Resistor to 11! I could live without To The Sea, at least with the pixie vocals, but otherwise, IMHO, it's one of their best. ------------------------------ Reality is a matter of opinion
The mix on the cd of TTS on PU is a little weak. I first saw the video on MTV's "Amp" and was floored. But the mix of the song with the video <one of their absolute best vids in my opinion> are faultless. I would love to have a DVD collection of their videos - I've only ever seen part of "On Track", that's all "Amp" ever showed here in the USA, about 1 and 1/2 minutes of it, and I liked it!!! And to see "Squeeze Please" on a large screen - I really like the video that you can watch from the official site, but it's only 2 inches high and blurry to boot. That video deserves better presentation. - John in Arlington, Va. ----- Original Message ----- From: <zaphod@ga.prestige.net> To: <yello@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 9:28 PM Subject: Re: [Yello] Pocket Universe

Same here, Pocket Universe is one of my favourites among the albums, if I was to be honest you really have to view it more as a 'Modern Opera', in that you really only ever should listen to the whole thing in one go instead of jumping from track to track. I have always viewed Yello as 'story telling' and Pocket Universe is one big story, it all fits together so perfectly. Hi there, I think I can explain people's negative opinion about PU. First of all, it's the first album where Yello have changed their sound SO completely. Many fans who got used to listen to their earlier albums found their new sound absolutely unusual and even unfamiliar. Second, PU isn't the set of various single songs -- it sounds like a complete story, which was quite unusual as well. I mean, those who weren't ready to accept the new Yello haven't liked PU at all. But fans who're well aware that Yello never repeat themselves and are always ready to accept and appreciate anything totally different, loved this album. I think PU is GREAT album. I absolutely love it. "Beyond Mirrors" is the MOST impressive and wonderful song I've EVER heard in my life. Cheers, Adelka A man came to a pet shop and asked, "Couldn't you give me 1000 cockroaches?" "May I ask you why do you need so many?" wondered a salesman. [ PU isn't the set of various single songs -- it sounds like a [ complete story, which was quite unusual as well. "Baby" is also a complete story. isn't it? That would make Pocket Universe not so unusual - except that I don't think it was ever released in the US, so nobody ever heard it. "on the run" is one of my favorite Yello songs... Brian
Is "On the Run" only available on "Nuns on the Run"? I'm going to have to find that OOP CD!! Dave G. --- Brian Willoughby <brianw@sounds.wa.com> wrote:

On the Run from the soundtrack has lyrics. I find it that is my favorite of the 2. The one on Baby is much better produced though. I love playing the Baby version loud :) Sounds great! Julz On 8/16/02 6:57 PM, "Brian Willoughby" <brianw@sounds.wa.com> wrote:

Funny enough, I completely disagree. To me Yello had up till PU been moving away from the spirit of their earliest albums, but with PU I felt that they once again had been able to catch that spirit. Anyway, that's just my impression and I guess it just shows how different you can look upon it. To me it's my secon favorite album after Stella. I can't agree with you more about Pocket Universe; those were my thoughts too, when I first heard PU. It's far and away my favorite Yello album. Add One Second and Flag to Stella and Pocket Universe and you have *MY* favorite Yello albums. Paul
I originally posted this on 8/21, but I don't know why it didn't show up in the list: <snip> I have to agree with you. Pocket is such a wonderful masterpiece! I think of the collection as a real trip through the Universe. The first day I got the CD, I grabbed the headphones and sat down somewhere where I wouldn't be disturbed (I do this with most of my new CDs so I can concentrate on the music better). The moment the music starts, I feel like I am being taken on a trip through the Universe, with Deiter narrating! :) As each track is played, the beat and tempo increases, until it reaches a fevered pitch with Resistor, which seems to warp my mind's eye into light speed. Then Deiter takes me back down to Earth, explaining how "The Universe is Magic" (Which is SO true). Having all of this fit on a CD makes it a true "Pocket Universe".! :D zaphod@ga.prestige.net wrote:
