Re: [Yello] Sound samples?
From what I can recall, this cd of samples was released for DJ's and musicians to use and not have to wory about paying additional royalties to Yello--hence the rather high price for the disc in the first place. You may remember that at the time, there were a lot of lawsuits launched by the original recording artists as large parts of their songs were sampled and or copied without the necessary royalties being paid. The best one That I remember was KD Lang setteling out of court when The Rolling Stones copied the entire melody and structure(Framing) of her song "Constant Craving" into their song "Has Anybody Seen My Baby". Don't ask me how I remember these trivial things, I just do!! maybe some day I'll win a bundle on a trivia game. Laurens van Graft. Hello.
Do you remember the sample CD mentioned in the Shade of Yello interview at year 1986?
Speaking of Samples, has anyone ever bothered to keep a record of yello samples and songs being used in TV shows, commercials and that sort of thing? I know there are tonnes... A local sports radio station called the Fan 590 has been using Hommage To The Mountain as a segue piece for years now... and I love the way Oh Yeah is the entry music for Duff Man on the Simpsons! Just wondering Random Tox
Yello has always been used a lot in commercial and TV programs here in France. For example : Levi's (Bostich), Orangina (Blue Nabou), Seat Leon (Squeeze Please), Les Inconnus (Tied Up, The Race), Le Hardi'Show (The Race), Conso'Mag (S.A.X), police serials on TF1 (Alhambra) and today again Le Bigdil (The Race)... Not a reference for the last and new :) I've forgotten all the reports I've seen on TV playing Yello but there's a lot. Everybody knows too they are played in Miami Vice too. I'm sure I'm forgotting a lot... GREG
