Re: [Yello] Bootlegs, Copies, 2nd Hand items, and being a fan...
I am pretty sure I have mentioned this in a previous e-conversation, but sometimes I go to gemm.com (global electronic music m-somethingorother). That's where I find my cheap Russian releases... .. . and the $400+ "gold" Yello cd/dvd (don't even remember other than it was outrageous and I think someone on this list had it free) Regarding the ebay e-conversation - I have been having computer issues and missed part of it, but I too think I got suckered on the whole dvd thing. But as my dvd player isn't working right, (i seem to have lots of problems with electronics!) I wasn't sure if the problem was the obviously bootlegged dvd, or just my player. my two cents - yello bootlegs don't bother me, this issue is so gray these days, and I know this will sound lame - but really folks, how much money could I possibly make selling YELLO bootlegs? How much money could these people possibly be taking from Boris (as Dieter obviously doesn't need any). I love Yello to pieces, obviously, and would gladly but dollar bills in their waistbands of their pants if they would let me. My personal opnion on bootlegging in general is that there should be a certain amount of profit involved before it is considered a crime. How much profit - I dunno. $500 a year? If you just copy stuff and get twenty bucks for it, you are not making a profit. well maybe that was more than two cents but there it is. ---------- Original Message ------------- Subject: Re: [Yello] Bootlegs, Copies, 2nd Hand items, and being a fan... Hey all, This is surprising, There's a thing called AMROC (http://www.amroc.com.au/) in Australia which is a database for *all* music retailers listing pretty much *all* the music available in Australia. It's fairly easy for even small Indy labels to get their stuff listed in AMROC, and of course all the big labels are in there.
I guess I always assumed most other countries had similar services set up!
If your local retailer needs more information about a release before they can order it for you I'd suggest doing a search on one of the many Amazon sites out there. DON'T just do a search on Amazon.com, especially for European stuff. Try doing a search on Amazon.co.uk or on Amazon.fr and copy the details (Record label and catalogue number) from there.
