I have seen complaints on this list about emails having too much in them, such as replies to replies containing all of the previous messages... So I thought just putting links to the subject matter was a natural response in trying to accommodate those requests for minimal amounts of information in emails.
Well, it is not that you should statisfy my needs. You people just should not go through extremes, you should go middle and watch up that netiquette. The netiquettes have been written for very good reasons. If you follow netiquettes or any other writing rules (such as what press uses), then this "media" is pleasant to read. I would not buy a newspaper or a magazine if it only had urls to internet and quotes. I don't think that anyone would buy any printed media if it only had URL's to quotes. They usually have a bibliography, or cite other print-published works (only exception here would be a Url top 100 list) The plan is to keep within the same media(m)-type, so that the fact-checkers can work quickly, and thread followers can spool up their threads quickly efficiently, and not have to change their glasses, or put on extra clothing to finish the job, stay within the same context or platform for the message (yes, that Canadian: Marshall McLuhan: the Media is the Message). (beer gut) Therefore, attaching links to other sites, is not, in my opinion, a pain in the a*@, since I am already connected. ALL I (have to) DO IS CLICK ON THE LINK. It is my choice to follow or ignore the link. Usually I will finish reading the message that contains the link and then decide weather to follow further, or delete the whole message, un-followed link(s) and all. this happens quite frequently as the message thread contains the link in previous postings, and I have already 'been there, done that'. (beer gut) I would get really steamed, however, if anyone sent a posting, and then said, "see info on thursday nights 11 o'clock news (10:30 in Newfoundland" {just for you RORY}. It is a cross platform link or reference, that requires putting on my other eyeglasses (the TV), and changing my clothes to go to the corner store and buy a newspaper or magazine. (beer gut) Go ahead and attach those hyper-links, I might click on them, I might not. (beer gut- are you laughing yet TASHA?) If the information is really important, it will be included as text, not as a link. That way everyone can get it. Plus people are sharing Yello goodies with you. Why would you complain about that? No matter how they served it to you. Jon is being nice by sharing this stuff with you guys and it seems not to be appreciated. I think it's kind of strange. Julz
now I get it! (took me a minute) haaa haaa haaa For some reason your lecture is conjuring up images if Mystery Science Theatre (beergut). you're going to have to post that song some kind of way so everybody can get in on the joke. (beergut) And now for something completely different - any other MST fans out there? I haven't seen too many of the episodes, but the few I saw made a lasting impression. Here in Austin Texas we have a show that plays at a movie theatre that sells beer (beergut) that is called Mister Sinus Theater.
