Greetings all. There is now available a temporary FTP service for rare / difficult to find yello music. It is recognized that J.R. has been working for some time to provide a more robust solution, but due to his time and fiscal constraints we find ourselves waiting much. In an effort to alleviate horrible strain this wait has brought upon us all, I am making available this FTP server as a sort of "preview of coming attractions". This is not an attempt to jump J.T.'s train. Once he announces the availability of his server, this one will be disabled after the content is moved to his machine. User accounts will be granted through requests posted TO THE LIST ONLY. I will respond to you directly and off the list with your username and password. All usernames will be prepended with "yello-", allowing for a maximum number of remaining digits of 11 [total of 16 characters allowed]. So, in other words, please limit the length of your username to eleven digits. If you exceed eleven digits, I will simply crop. The "yello-" per-user prefix is a necessity to satisfy the working arrangement with the hosting provider. If you hate it, sorry. Note that *all* access to this server is logged. Quoted from README.FIRST, present in the home dir of the site: ============================= Post into ./upload Grab from ./download Post only rare / difficult to find material. Do not post full albums that can be easily found. Post only good quality files. Nothing less than 128 KB mp3 / q6 OGG. No .ra, .wma, or other such crap. Post no full wav or aiff unless specifically requested to do so. This account's capacity is capped. Quota will be grown by admin only if truly necessary. Server admin will cause offending uploads to be DUH-WEETED, repeat offenders will be blocked from accessing site. DO NOT post news of this account's existence outside of the xmission-yello mailing list. The moment Yello release a compendium or best of that makes available something that was not previously readily accessible, matching files will be removed from this server. Let's keep this a quiet, good thing. ============================= My abuse-o-meter has a very short sweep. I don't mean to be hard nosed, but this site is being provided out of a love for the music of the band in question. You are being asked and /required/ to respect the service that is being provided to you FOR FREE. A little abuse will go a long way to me simply shutting the service off. So, let's all play nice and enjoy some fantastic music! -gcr
Hello Please add me to the list of FTP site users! If I need to choose a user name, let it be "belo". Thanks! Dave G.

WOW! I can't believe the turnout this is getting. Good job, gcr! I commend you for getting the ball rolling on this. :-) As for my FTP server: Yes, I've been busy as hell and getting approval of more HD space for the server has been tough. The good news is that I have finally got the space I needed to get this sucker ready. Most of the files will be on one server with 72 Gig of space (Five 18 Gig HDs in a RAID-5 configuration, for the technical among us). Plus or minus 47 Gig of it will be available to the FTP server. The only three things left to do to get this rolling is to get the new drives in place, finish the disclaimer/EULA, and do final security tests and db logging. Once all of that is done, I will post up here all of the info everyone will need in order to connect. Once again, I want to thank gcr for setting his server up. I'm glad to see that everyone, including people that idle way too much in here :D, are requesting accounts. -----=====<<<<<>>>>>=====----- J.R. from New York State, USA The Yello Pagez - http://www.geocities.com/jr_bloodsworth/yello.htm (Yea, I know. Hello Pardon my ignorance, but I simply don't know much about how to access an FTP site. I'm a listmember (belo_homem) and requested username belo. Now what do I do? I'm embarassed to ask but it seems others are accessing a temporary site (which I'd have to figure out how to navigate anyway) but do I need to figure this out. Are you granting access to those who request it? I did, but maybe you need my specific address? Again, sorry, but I need a little guidance. Please email me at pgilleran@sbcglobal.net, and again username belo or whatever you choose. Thanks Dave Gilleran --- organism@hydrophilus.com wrote:

No worries, mate. We were all at one time newer than we are now. Use an FTP program to access the site. Popular choices for Windows users include WS_FTP, SmartFTP, CuteFTP, and several others. An online search will yield a plethora of programs from which you may make your selection. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and is a means for transferring files from one machine to another, usuall a local machine and a remote machine. The software establishes a connection between the two machines in question, and then presents you with a dual-paned setup wherein you will see your local directory structure and that of the remote machine. You will want to establish a connection to: yello.technologypimps.com Your username is, as you should have recieved notification by now, "yello-belo" Your password was also sent with that notification. That is all that is necessary to establish a connection to the remote server. At that time, you will be able to upload files into the "upload" directory, and download only from the directory of the same name. I have it set so that nothing can be remotely uploaded to the download dir. This prevents things from becoming messy. I hope this helps. --gcr

Well, since you just posted your password to the list, I will be picking a different one for you. They are assigned, anyways. It's the username that may be specified.
