I believe that some CDs are pressed in gold rather than aluminum. There is some evidence that the aluminum platters will oxidize after a decade or two, rendering the CD unplayable. Using gold for "audiophile" CDs doesn't necessarily make them sound better, but they will continue to sound like new until your great-grandchildren are all grown up... But the gold CDs I see in the stores are not more than twice the price of aluminum. I mean, they're still coated in plastic, for cryin' out loud!
