Okay, here's my input. Take the Jungle Bill 12". My copy says it's a promotional not for sale, but I got it from GEMM.com I think. now, my husband is a huge househead. Take this song, and it mixes great with his ryuichi sakamoto "love and hate" - specifically the "Hate Mix". Both of these songs have big fat sax and that house sound. I don't personally care one way or another about house - and figured Yello ended up with some house remixes because (1) Yello is da bom and people got to give em props, and (2) it's a way for them to appeal to a wider audience and keep up with what's going on in the scene. Maybe one of these months/years if I EVER get all my electronic crap set back up again I'll record it and put it on kazaa or something. Hello everyone,
I love all of Yello's music, and I don't really think that it fits into any single category. When I listen to their albums, I tend not to think of styles (or even song titles). However: If you had a friend who is a big fan of house music (and music in general, of course), what would be the best Yello album to be their introduction to Yello?
At the moment, my hunch is that Zebra might be the best starting point. But some of my favorite songs are on Flag and One Second. Baby seems to be my favorite "album." Pocket Universe gets a little too weird at times. Now that I think about it, Motion Picture might be another contender for a good album for house fans.
What do you folks think? Obviously, after hearing the first Yello album, a new fan is probably going to want to hear everything - but that takes hours and hours! I just want to pick a good first CD.
Later,
Brian
