I concur. I vote for the creation and management of an FTP server after the manner suggested by jr_bloodsworth.
Vote counted. ;) See, somethimes it does make a diffence to vote. :D
And I have some rarish stuff - mostly vinyl xfers - that can be uploaded. I hope that we can expect that there will be a quality threshhold for material posted to this server. Downloading an emptythree that had underruns in the rip or was compressed with the Xing encoder at 96KBPS on someone's p133 with 24MB RAM that was meanwhile busy surfing for Britney Spears wallpapers with MSIE is not what I call worth my time.
All MP3s will be checked before being available to the public. I'm going through my collection and weeding out the really bad or cut short versions. The highest quality, the better. MONO music recordings will also be rejected, unless it was the only way the piece was released. I do understand that some recordings from vinyl will not sound very good (I have one or two), but if it is the only copy left in existance, then we'll have to live with it. I don't want to alter any of the files musicly, but I do want to stress about entering the ID3v2 data in the MP3s so we have some details about the music we're listening to. Having a quality collection will be so worth it in the end. Pictures also will be looked at for quality. If it looks really bad, it won't be submitted to the public side of the server. If it's questionable, then something at the end of the filename will indicate as such. BTW: Yes, I realize the amount of work involved with maintaining this. I think I enjoy YELLO a little too much. :-D ;-)
If we could just go ahead and have an agreement to adhere to a certain standard, that would be greeaaaaat.
Everything is being documented and will be most likely published on a web site. I'm also thinking that in order to get an account, you will have had to post in this list at least once in the history of this list. I have most of the original e-mails, plus I could search through the archives to verify this. I'm still tinkering around with some account access submissions (E-Mail only, Form on web page) Anyone with any ideas? Movieline - "My God, what have I done?" :-D
