In the lyrics to "Blender", the name is not 'rented tux', but "Random Toxy", an homage to the song "Smile on You" off of "You've Gotta say yes to Another Excess". On Feb 2, 2004, at 11:53 AM, yello-request@mailman.xmission.com wrote:

Hahahaha...! Sure!. Why the hell not.:) Good idea Rene. But we need some outtakes from Dada. (It's for me the most irritating yello song ever, but I like the idea, though.)
Cheers Arno.:)

Yesterday my brand new Cubase SX 2.0 and Halion 2.0 arrived!! I'm broke for a year now, but happy as a child with his new toys.
Now I can say goodbye to some hardware...or maybe not.
But anyway... The first test run with this new gear is the Planet Dada remix I've been dying to make for ages.
How about initiating a Planet Dada remix Event amongst the members of this list?
Anyone who is in one way or other producing music (either pro or not), and feels like it, could set his or her mind to making an own intepretation of this, in my ears, increadible cool track.
After a while we could have a bunch of Dada tracks and bring out our own Remix Album :-)

Well irritating or not... I like it. Just like Hypesters Delay... so cool to anticipate on the strange sounds and melody additions.
I already have discected the two Dada tracks into snippets. Not loops, just the sounds that could be ripped clean and stand-alone. We could create a Dada sample bundle that can form the basis of the remix. All though my version is generated from scratch (and I hope to be able to keep it that way, just to stay loyal to my own style).
I've also been singing along this afternoon to create my own Dada Dieter vocals... (drink a bottle of whiskey, smoke a pack of Camels, drink some Toilet Cleaner, and there you go... a nice rough voice.. :-)

Speaking of Samples, has anyone ever bothered to keep a record of yello samples and songs being used in TV shows, commercials and that sort of thing? I know there are tonnes... A local sports radio station called the Fan 590 has been using Hommage To The Mountain as a segue piece for years now... and I love the way Oh Yeah is the entry music for Duff Man on the Simpsons!
Just wondering

Yello has always been used a lot in commercial and TV programs here in France. For example : Levi's (Bostich), Orangina (Blue Nabou), Seat Leon (Squeeze Please), Les Inconnus (Tied Up, The Race), Le Hardi'Show (The Race), Conso'Mag (S.A.X), police serials on TF1 (Alhambra) and today again Le Bigdil (The Race)... Not a reference for the last and new :) I've forgotten all the reports I've seen on TV playing Yello but there's a lot. Everybody knows too they are played in Miami Vice too. I'm sure I'm forgotting a lot...

Jonus W. would you care to ask next tome your taking to the yello office how wide the next relese is going to be. Particuarly if we in australia (and probably Nth America) will be able to get it local insted of as an import. Thanks

Yes it is...
And it'll keep us collectors going on and one. We'd want the motor music release and the universal version. But I'd be happy with either one of them. Man... I cannot understand why it has to take so long for my maxi to arrive.

Here's another one close to home for ya, Saturday afternoons on the home renovating show on CFRB1010 (am) ABC used How How a couple of years ago for 5-10 second bites between shows.
Also, I always thought the narrators name on "Blender" was "Rented Tux" which I think matches the idea of a hawkster selling kitchen utensils in a cheep rented tuxido! Hey, I could be wrong...it woudn't be the first time!!
Another note on Blender, I liked it sooo much, that I had to use it for my Mountain Bike video a few years ago (practically destroyed my wife's video camera wiping out during 'On Board' taping!!

Well I don't have any music making toys, but sign me up to purchase a cd.
Speaking of Events, has there ever been anything like a Yello Convention? Kinda like a Star Trek convention... I suppose it would be a nightmare to organize, if anybody would even attend. I wouldn't even go to the last Star Trek convention in my town when I found out it was thirty something dollars for a day only pass. I just wanted to take my son to see Warf, and Dr. Crusher, but that was just too much.

Any one of you who ever played games like Hitman or Freedom Fighters knows the excelent music score produced by Jesper Kyd.
For those of you who don't, here's an interesting link to this composers site.
Especially the Hitman 2 theme song is very cool, where the Freedom Fighter tracks can hit the spot of euforism.

Following up the Planet Dada Remix Event discussion...
For those who have no or little electronic music machines, here's something that might give you all you need when wanting to -get into- music making the somewhat easy way.
Go to Reason and discover it's handiness.
All you need is a good sound-card, a reasonable machine, and a simple midi-keyboard.

http://xray.sai.msu.ru/~polar/music/pictures/yello/yellojpg.html (very cewl!)(anyone from here??)
I scanned them at 1993. Note that number 3 in the above site is from Kassel 1994 happening and not part of the series.
The file ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/culture/music/western/Yello/yelloimages.tar.gz http://www.funet.fi/pub/culture/music/western/Yello/yelloimages.tar.gz has original gif images and the original readme file which partially lists the magazines where from I scanned the photos. Magazine photos are color, my scannings are grey scale (had no color scanner).
My favourite is number 9. :-) Note that Shades of Yello interview at 1986 has a second photo with the Fairlight setup. Must be the same photographer.
Also there is Ouad El Habib lyrics scanned from Claro Que Si lyrics sheet. I include below the discussion held when I asked about the title. Maybe I have the lyrics translation as well, but could not find it now. I will check for it. I'm sure I posted the lyrics translation to this list at the time.
-*-
I hope Yello could buy the rights to all magazine photos, and sell or give away free from their website. Should we collect all possible photos so that we see what is the situation? I'm sure 99% of the photos are unavailable by now. That is sad.
We also could contact the photographers and ask permissions and better copies and other photos. I already searched for Dana Haas who has taken very latest Yello studio photos but could not find. Anyone?
What photos are in Keys 2004/1 magazine? I still don't have a copy of that issue -- have asked where from order it and waiting for reply. Will forward to the list if the info is helpful.
Regards, Juhana

Joe Angel:
Ouad el habib = beloved boy OR valley of the beloved, i.e., where my beloved dwells. The transliteration 'OUAD' is ambiguous; it could mean 'boy' in North African dialects or Arabic, and could mean 'valley' or 'quarter' in classical Arabic.
Sadik Sebbar Alaoui:
OUAD doese not mean vallley or boy in arabic or north african dialects, OUAD mean only river, but river of beloved must be interpreted with a bit romantic
Joe Angel:
Every Arabic language geography text I have ever read employs 'wad' (waw, alef, dal; this is what I take 'ouad' to be) to mean 'valley' (exchangeably with 'wadi'). You are of course correct in stating that 'wad' also means 'river', but this is not the ONLY meaning. In fact, most native speakers of Arabic would use 'nahr', rather than 'wad', to denote a river.
