Hi Shaun,
>>would it be too
much to ask for those that can keep us all abrest...
No, perhaps not. But it takes
time, which is rare. Therefor I suggested
to just wait a teed bit, until start-ab comes
with their English version,
for full details.
But it comes down to this in short as I'm
typing anyway:
Anyone can participate in the contest. Once you
register with
start-ab under -remix-, you'll be given an
account and password.
They'll send you two e-mails and one of them
has to be re-send
to verify your e-mail address and activating
your account.
When the time has come, you'll be send the info
on where to download
the files that Yello is handing out to work
with. This will happen on
a friday at 18:00 in June (not before!). You'll
have to submit your remix
of those files on the following sunday before 18.00. Giving you 48
hours
to construct your master piece.
The mix itself may not be longer in time than
3.30 minutes and should
be uploaded in mp3 or real audio format. Any
mix longer then 3.30 or
in a different format will not reach the
jury.
Further more they add that it's a good idea to
incorporate your own sounds,
perhaps your voice, or even play an instrument
and add it, to make it a more
personal mix, then just a collage of what Boris is giving away. But the given
samples should still be hearable in the remix. So not like some official
remixes
where some snippets of the orignal surface now and then, and that it is in
fact
a whole different song that just sounds like Yello somewhere in the
distance.
The tomcraft syndrom :-) I guess it's obvious
not to sample larger amounts
from other artist, taking in mind the copyright
and that the track that wins
is published on the net.
Once your account is active it is also possible
to chat with other people
who participate. There is even a support
section and one that features
tools you can download to get started. Simple
software like a tracker and
mp3/real audio tools.
That's sums it up I think. But I might have
missed a detail here
and there.
All you need is some sampling suite, a tracker,
a computer with a modem.
That's minimum. Better would be some more gear
or software to give the mix
a personal touch. But magic can be done with
simple tools, once you understand
those tools.
