Schweizer Deutsch. (Swiss German). To a German or Austrian speaker, Swiss German is
an odd dialect. I doubt anyone would take Yello as seriously if they sang in Swiss German
as they do singing in English. Even in that on-line audio interview you could hear the Swiss
German brogue. It's almost to german from Germany, say, as Scottish English is to what
you and I would call "normal" English, i.e. spoken with a north american accent.
 
Having said all that, I think it's cool that Switzerland has produced such a world-class band.
I mean, besides Watches and Chocolate what do most people think about when someone
mentions Switzerland? I think Dieter's got an eccentric streak and Switzerland is a little bit
of an eccentric entity in Europe, so it all fits.
