Box Sets and Boris plays 10 minute track

Question about microphones for computer (for music)

A question for those listees who have done Yello remixes - I have been thinking about trying something, but I was wondering how to enter sound into my computer (e.g. vocals or acoustic instruments) (I have an iBook running MacOS 10.3 - it has a built-in microphone but I want a better quality sound than I can get with this). How good are USB microphones for entering sound (assuming I don't buy a cheapie), or is it better to use a proper microphone (then I'd have the problem of connecting the microphone to the computer - there isn't a microphone input port).
