Hello Fellow WSLC Members,

The next WSLC meeting is this Wednesday, February 18 at noon in the Copper Room at the Senate Office Building. The Education Legislative Study Committee has invited several legislators to come speak to us about the changes to the State School Board Election process. The current method of electing state school board members was struck down by a U.S. District Court judge in September 2014. Representatives Gibson, Thurston, Powell, and McCay are sponsoring bills in the House to address the issue. Senator Jackson is sponsoring a bill in the Senate. They all are bringing a different legislative solution to the floor.

For those members who have been in contact with the Nominating Committee and agreed to run for one of our elected positions please remember forward your short bio, photo, and contact information to Pam Grange at grangeline1@gmail.com this week. If you are interested in running for a position and have not spoken with a member of the Nominating Committee please contact the chair, Joyce Short at 801-643-8896.

The Nominating Committee would like to find two people to run for each elected position if possible. If you are interested in, or would like more information about, one of the following positions, please contact Joyce:

President-Elect (Republican)

First Vice-President (Democrat)

Corresponding Secretary (Democrat)

Treasurer (Republican)

Historian (Democrat)

You will have the opportunity on Wednesday, March 11(the day of the elections) to nominate yourself or someone else directly, if you do not want to go through the Nominating Committee. Please remember to have the permission of other person if you would like to nominate them.
