Star Party for Timpview High, Friday October 28
The annual Timpview High astronomy student star party is coming up in a couple of weeks, and if past events are any indicator, I'm going to need help with extra telescopes! This is a very enthusiastic and fun crowd, with plenty of interest. In the past, the students have been just delightful -- curious, respectful, and eager to learn more. Please make plans to join me. I realize this is close to Halloween (which is the following Monday), but I promise it will be worth your time to come up and join us. We will be in the South Fork of Provo Canyon (about a 15 minute drive from the mouth of the canyon), at Big Springs Park parking lot, oh-dark-thirty (sun sets at 6:30, fully dark by 7 p.m.). I'll post directions in a follow-up e-mail; meanwhile, mark your calendars! I'll be there with the 16". Please RSVP if you can come so I know what to expect. Since the planned date for our star party is approaching, I just wanted to touch base with you both to make sure you're still on for the 28th. Of course it is dependent on the weather conditions as late as that afternoon, but we will be hopeful! I know there will be Halloween parties, etc. as it is close to Halloween, but I am confident we will still get a lot of attendees - I have about 200 astronomy students this year! So does that day still work for both of you, assuming we get decent weather? We could push it to the next Friday in November with a new moon, but it's going to be cold! Also, I'm working on contacting some others with telescopes that may be willing to come up but my resources are limited. So if either of you know anyone, especially you Richard T. with the UVAA, that would come up with their telescope, the more the better! I'm getting excited, and so are the students! Thanks, Rachel
Hi Rich - I have not been able to attend any star parties but have been wanting to do so for quite awhile. I am very much an amateur an know very little! My father is very knowledgeable and had a Meade 7" LX200 EMC which I now have. I would love to attend and bring the telescope for all to use. Basically, I would like to come, join, learn and bring the telescope for the students, but I'm unable to contribute any "know how" as far as astronomy or even the setting up the telescope! Hope to hear back from you, Shane On Wed, Oct 12, 2011 at 4:04 PM, Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

Rich - It's good to see (UVVA) active. I moved here from Texas in April and signed up in May. Hadn't seen a single message until now. If the weather is good I will plan to be there. I have a 12 inch Orion Dobsonian Intellescope. It would be great to see more star parties. I don't consider myself an expert. I guess I am just an average amateur. Look forward to the note with details about how to get there. Sincerely, Paul S.
