SLAS Blast - General Meeting on Tuesday, April 25th
Hello everyone: Thanks to all SLAS members and others who attended Robert K. Wilson's lecture this past Friday at the University of Utah. I videotaped the entire lecture including the question and answer period. I may show parts of this at a future club meeting or a special "Rap Session" for those who were unable to attend the lecture. The April general meeting of the Salt Lake Astronomical Society will be on Tuesday the 25th at the downtown campus of Salt Lake Community College located at 115 S. Main Street, Salt Lake City. Start time is 7:30pm. April's guest speaker will be Jerry Foote and his talk is titled "Amateur Contributions to Astronomical Science". Jerry is a past president of SLAS and now resides in Kanab, Utah. He along with his wife Cindy are the founders of ScopeCraft, Inc. a manufacturer of large computer controlled telescopes. In addition, they operate the Vermillion Cliffs Observatory at their home in Kanab. The observatory consists of two telescopes: a 24" f/3.4 reflector and a 14" Meade LX200GPS. They both are involved with astronomical research with Jerry interested in Cataclysmic variable stars and Cindy working on Extra Solar planet transits. Jerry will talk about his work as part of the Center for Backyard Astrophysics and discuss some of Cindy's work. Cindy, by the way, was mentioned on page 90 of the May issue of Sky & Telescope magazine. You might want to check it out!!! Jerry & Cindy are delightful people who you really ought to get to know and meet at the April meeting. Thanks!! Lowell Lyon
