Star Pary at Wolf Creek Saturday Night
While not an "official" UVAA star party, I will be joining a few members of SLAS, UVAA and OAS at Wolf Creek Summit (East of Park City at about 9,000 feet) on Saturday night for those serious about deep sky observing in very dark skies; any of you are welcome to join us, though be aware that this is a 90 minute drive from Utah County, is primitive (no bathrooms up there), and quite cold at night. See the General Discussion Message area on the uvaa website ( http://www.uvaa.org/messages.html ) for notes and directions. -Rich __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! While not an official star party, there will be a meeting of amateur astronomers at the Skyline Trail Trailhead parking lot saturday night. This is to the left of Red Hill Observation site and again left at the broadcast facility and then around the back of Science City. This location is at 9800', quite cool and free from wind and very dark and there are no facilities. Hope to see you there ........... Hi Rich This is what I sent off to a bunch of folks for this Saturday. I am taking my 12.5" up along w/ it's big pier and 100# of counterweights and the tools to establish a place to bolt it to the ground. And it looks grey outside .............. I'm glad you all are having fun too. Aloha Rob
For those of you who don't know it, Rob lives in Maui, Hawaii. I suspect he'd be happy to show you the good observing spots there if you want to go pay him a visit (he says the southern cross is visible from his house!). Rich --- Rob Ratkowski <ratkwski@maui.net> wrote:

OK, so the Skyline trailhead he's talking about is in Hawaii? BTW: how was Wolf Creek? It rained a bunch here last night ... Hi Rich Right now I'm on weather watch for a Haleakala summit trip w/ the 12.5. This is an observatory sized scope and will be transported up and then reassembled, we have medium heavy stratus and I'll call the Park at 3:50 and see how it looks. Usually though, it is clear above the 8000-9000' level when cloudy below, but it's the mid level drizzle I'm trying to find out about. We'll be a 9400' and when the new site is finished, we will be at 9800'. Cool clear and DARK and no traffic!! I'll let you know what happens. AND if anyone wants to come from UTAH to HAWAII(MAUI) to observe, just get in contact w/me and we'll plan a good time. The Southern Cross is a late Spring thing here, can't really see it now ...... Aloha Rob
